Best From The West: Ascot – 1st April 2023

The Quokka is not that far away now and we have an important lead up with the Roma Cup plus some Karrakatta Plate pre-cursor races too.

AMELIA'S JEWEL winning the Drummond Golf - Northerly Stakes

Naturally the big watch in the G3 Roma Cup will be for the elite filly Amelia's Jewel and what it means for her prospects over the next month.

For the Gimcrack Stakes though, how could you not love the way Live To Tell took out the Supremacy Stakes first up.

She sat back midfield off a hot pace and charged home once they straightened up. The added 100m can only benefit her cause.

The wide barrier is not a great help but in the end it could simply mean we get a better price and confirm her as the clear fav for the Karrakatta.

As for the rest of the day, there are many small fields which isn't providing many value hopes.

There might be a little via a horse in the last called Mack Mack. This 3yo had to do a fair bit of work to get the front last time at Pinjarra.

He gained it after about 400m and still ran along. Just as one came to beat him in the straight, the big horse kicked and staved them off.

That tenacity will be important back to the mile and his one go over it was a win, leading all the way at Kalgoorlie.

He's hard fit now after three runs back and could take running down. Suggest we will get better than the current quote on the day.
