bet365 Sydney Specials: Rosehill – Saturday 4th of November 2023

Golden Eagle day at Rosehill with a competitive feature for big money.

HAWAII FIVE OH winning the MULLINS LAWYERS FRED BEST CLASSIC Picture: Michael McInally/Racing Queensland

Plenty of chances in the Golden Eagle with a hint of international flavour from Japan, the UK and New Zealand. Legarto we have seen in Australia where she won the Guineas at Flemington, beating Attrition who won the Toorak last start.

The Toorak and Epsom have been the lead ups for the Golden Eagle. Having a good, strong 1600m lead up works well for what is typically a high pressure 1500m and if I were to lean to the form I'd probably lean to the Toorak.

Rediener  got everything in his favour to win with no weight while the run of the race was clearly Kovalica. His rating of 118+ would go close to winning this, especially if he's able to harness that sectional mark up, but I don't think he is.

I hate that he's back in trip to 1500m, and at Rosehill, and drawn wide and will need to run past a lot of horses.

The map horse is Hawaii Five Oh and while he doesn't come through a mile race, he does bring the best ratings into this. The Everest hasn't provided a winner of four Golden Eagles but none (other than a prep-ruined Arcadia Queen) possibly had the strength and form over further that he does.

Sunlight was an out-and-out 1200m horse who ran a red-hot Kolding to a long neck off The Everest and Hawaii Five Oh, prior to this preparation, had peak figures over 1400m. He was strongest late behind Think About It two starts back and very good in The Everest when three-wide the trip, only beaten 2.3 lengths.

The form out of that (as you'd expect) has worked out quite well with Espiona behind Hawaii Five Oh and winning The Invitation last week. He gets Nash back aboard and draws to stalk the speed which should see him right in the finish.

Plenty of other 'best bet' options on the card including Overriding and Canberra Legend (who has seemingly been kept short by stablemate Land Legend winning) but for one at each-way odds I've landed on Afterlight in Race 4 with bet365 offerring a generous $9.

She was a dominant winner first up when leading all the way and then got posted three wide no cover on the speed second up but didn't shirk the task, sticking on for a narrow fourth.

The favourite here is Shohei who is tricky. Her last start to Foxy Frida at Bendigo goes a long way to winning this but it was in April and it's one piece of form the market is really hanging on to. She's also got Ford on and has been ridden conservatively in her trials.

Afterlight has the best jockey in the race in Tommy Berry and looks over the odds.
