Canterbury Race 1 -  Makarena

This was a better win than the margin would suggest. Expected to win and sent around at $1.80, she couldn't get in midfield so Zac Lloyd, as he isn't afraid to do, sent her around the field to sit outside the leader, finding plenty in the straight to score. The time was solid for the day too, a much faster time figure than the other maiden on the card and there's no doubt she had a fair bit on this field. Her debut was very good behind Nadal who has run well in Group company since and it wouldn't shock to see Makarena end up in a decent fillies race.

Sandown Hillside Race 1 – Roll On High

This was a tremendous debut from the Peter G Moody & Katherine Coleman trained filly. A daughter of Shamus Award, she got back to last from the wide gate and had no hope given the race shape, the leader going out six lengths slower than maiden class early and able to win the race because of it. Roll On High has run the second fastest last 600/400/200m of the entire meeting and looks a filly that will relish getting over more ground. Watch for her getting to a mile and in a better test of stamina and she might be one they look to test in an Oaks trial of some sort.
