St Kilda coach Ross Lyon has urged the AFL to "aim for perfection" in attempting to stamp out racism in the game.
The AFL is this week expected to announce it will back a 'yes' vote in the Indigenous Voice referendum leading into the league's annual Sir Doug Nicholls round.
On Wednesday, Geelong joined Richmond, Essendon, Collingwood and West Coast in publicly supporting the voice to parliament.
Lyon was quizzed about the topic on Wednesday, saying he had been "blessed" to play alongside and coach some inspirational First Nations people.
The 56-year-old highlighted Adam Goodes and Michael O'Loughlin from his time as an assistant coach with the Sydney Swans, as well as Brad Hill, Stephen Hill, Michael Walters and Michael Johnson at Fremantle.
"We've just got to stay vigilant, call it out when you see it and just keep pushing on," Lyon said at RSEA Park.
"I don't think we're ever going to be perfect, but we can we can aim for perfection.
"As long as the resources keep going in and we keep chipping away, we can make it a safe a place as we can be."
Lyon has reunited with Brad Hill this year, the wingman crediting the veteran coach for rediscovering his passion and enjoyment for football.
Essendon coach Brad Scott said it was important the Bombers, who play Richmond each year in the Dreamtime blockbuster, helped educate the community on important issues.
"It's not about steering people one way or the other," Scott said on Wednesday.
"It's about giving everyone the information so they can make an informed decision themselves."
If the AFL does back a 'yes' vote, the league will join the NRL and the Australian Olympic Committee in supporting the voice to parliament.
Outgoing AFL boss Gillon McLachlan helped launch this year's Indigenous round in Melbourne on Tuesday and the league's Commission met to talk about its position on the voice on Wednesday.
