Mixed fortunes for the fancies at the barrier draw have created an intriguing contest in tonight’s A G Hunter Cup at Melton.

Star Kiwi Copy That has brought his best form with him on this trip across the Tasman having led and dictated to win the Ballarat Cup last week.

He meets many of the same rivals but his task is made more challenging by a wider draw.

He is tough and talented so only needs even luck to overcome that and go close again.

Honolua Bay was the eye-catcher of the Ballarat Cup last start, settling back before steaming home for second.

Expect he will be driven with sit-and-sprint tactics again but he should settle closer this time from the lower draw.

If he produces the same burst of speed he could be hard to hold out.

Spirit Of St Louis has been in strong form since returning to Sydney, winning both of his outings at Menangle since the Inter Dominion series.

He was runner up in this race last year and the ace draw gives him the chance to go one better.

Hurricane Harley backs up off his G2 Casey Classic win last week and will be close to his peak third up.

He is drawn to get a trail and with the sprint lane at his disposal could be dangerous.

The second Kiwi Old Town Road has a tough draw on the back row but is unbeaten second-up so watch out for him.

Tonight's meeting features three other Group races, highlighted by the return of boom pacer Captain Ravishing in the 4YO Bonanza while his Emma Stewart-trained stablemate Tough Tilly is drawn to win the Ladyship Cup.

BEST BETS:

Melton Saturday Race 1 #4 Our Lady Lara @ $3.40 – With the favourite coming off a defeat she looks decent odds for a mare who is three from three this time in.

Melton Saturday Race 7 #4 Honolua Bay @ $6.00 – Steamed home for second in the Ballarat Cup and a lower draw could see him go one better.
