JRA Best Bets Sunday, 19th February 2023

Feature racing across three JRA venues on Sunday with the feature on dirt at Tokyo in the Grade 1 February Stakes. That race will see the highly talented Lemon Pop, who has seven wins and three minors from 10 starts, take on the top level for the first time. He recorded a Grade 3 win fresh along with a career best figure but will no doubt be improved off the run.

Over at Kokura is the Grade 3 Kokura Daishoten, over 1800m on turf where we really like the chances of Red Lammert to bounce back.

Our best bets for Sunday

Kokura Race 8 - #5 Admire La Vie

Honest filly resuming from a break. Last time resuming found the line strongly in a career best figure, finishing third after settling midfield from a wide gate. Second-up though, she drew even wider so pushed forward to sit handy to the lead but the early burn told, fading to finish sixth in a run lengths off her best. She was immediately tipped out and returns here boasting a fresh record of three minors form three tries.

This time around though she has drawn ideal and Seina Imamura, who was aboard for her maiden success three back, returns to the saddle. While some of her rivals boast better career figures, many will be looking for further or are out of form. This filly is honest early in her campaign and with every chance from the nice draw should be in the finish over her favourite trip.

Rivoli resumes and looks a big danger but as stated is one of those best over a little further. She has drawn for a soft run as well though and will be winding up strongly. Look for her motoring home late.

Kokura Race 11 - #2 Red Lammert

Keen to give this handy galloper another chance. Won three on end, including his fresh-up run in easier when a gutsy on speed victor after drawing very wide.

He then raced in similar grade to today but over 2000m and again drew off the track, pushing forward and taking plenty of pressure before being swamped late. He finished sixth but was less than two lengths from the winner.

He drops back to his preferred 1800m journey today and has leading rider Hayato Yoshida plus a perfect gate. The latest figure was off his usual returns but with a better run today can bounce back to winning form.

Win Greatest is in top form winning two of last three and looks a serious threat again. Last start he led throughout over a mile to win the Listed New Year Stakes and although yet to score over this longer trip he has some good run. He will push forward and can definitely measure up to this grade, having been twice placed at Grade 2 level.

Hanshin Race 12 - #10 Susan Asher

Honest galloper resuming. Raced four times last campaign for a win and three minors, resuming with a fast finishing second over this journey. His form here at Hanshin was the best though, including a career topping figure last time out over 1800m when third in tougher grade than he meets today.

Fresh-up he has placed 2/2, and has a win and two minors from three runs at the trip. He should be winding up strongly into the finish again this time.

Tudo De Bom recorded a strong figure while fresh and appeals as the main threat. He rolled forward and boxed on well to finish runner-up and has improvement to come on his best form. His top figure is well and truly up to this level.

Tokyo Race 7 - #4 Dibaryon

This entire was a real eye-catcher when resuming from a three-month spell last start over this course and distance. As usual, he was restrained in the early stages then when asked for an effort in the straight he sprouted wings and finished runner-up, beaten just a length. Today's assignment looks no harder.

There is abundant pace on paper so Kawada should enjoy a nice run back off the speed. With that run under his belt he can quicken well enough to round these up and break a 13-month win drought.

Jewel Labisia is a threat at her first run since missing the placings for the first time here over the mile in November. Lemaire will probably push forward from the wide alley and, if he gets near the fence without using too much fuel, will be tough to beat.
