Notes from Dubai Wednesday

Michael Costa now calls Dubai "home".

In a move that he admits was not an easy decision, Michael Costa moved from the Gold Coast to Dubai or more precisely Jebel Ali to train for Sheik Ahmed bin Rashid al Maktoum.

He took over an existing stable with its established residents and that would be a tall order anywhere.

But Michael came, brought the family and settled down to do what he does best – get the best out of his horses.  And the hard work has paid off as he achieved good results in his first season and is having even better ones this season, including getting a runner onto the card for Dubai World Cup Day.

That horse is Mouheeb, whom Michael describes as a "gentleman", and who is the stable star.  He's had 12 starts for 4 wins and 3 placings so has been earning his feed.  He's by Flatter out of an Eltish mare Shananies Song.

Saturday's draw hasn't been helpful as he's drawn out in the car park however James Doyle has the ride this time and he should be able to sort out a plan.  Also Mouheeb will be sporting blinkers with Costa adding that he has been working in them and they seem to have made him sharper.  They are at big odds in the countries that allow betting and a little bit of each way could work out to be a good investment.

Whatever happens the Costa family will be cheering loudly and looking forward to many more days of happy racing.
