Say from SA: Morphettville - Saturday, 1st April 2023

We’re on the course proper in Adelaide on Saturday with two stakes races as the Autumn carnival starts to take shape.

The Listed Manihi Classic (1100m) and the Listed Claire Lindop Stakes (1600m) headline the racing from Morphettville, the latter the more interesting of the two at $5 the field for the fillies on an Oaks path. More on that later.

For the best of the day, we go to the tenth and final race on the card, a fairly handy 3yo Bm72 with some progressive types clashing.

I'm keen to be with River Ribble as the best of the day at 8-1 and think he could easily be marked favourite. He's always shown talent, running good races against better horses than this and has come back just as well.

A new peak of 98 with Timeform when working home well at Bendigo under 60kg, he's got good numbers at this trip and maps for a soft run with Pannell taking the ride. A few progressive types line up for sure but I think he's got a good win in him and this looks an ideal race to notch up another victory.

Tracking back a race, we've seen a few of these fillies clash in the Spring, notably Zennzella and As Time Goes By in the Group 2 Racing & Sports Wakeful Stakes (2000m). Zennzella comfortably held the wood there and the latter has been fairly beaten in two maidens to start the campaign.

While Zennzella was poor first up over 1400m, the rise in trip and added fitness suits and at double figures she can improve. I think the horse to beat is Zoe's Promise, who returned a new peak figure first up at Flemington when run down late. She's a handy filly who is hard to get past and she looks to get a fairly easy time of it here.
