Race Form Analyst | Journalist

Ken Warren joined the Racing and Sports ('RAS') team in 2015. Racing is Ken's passion and for more than 25 years he has been involved in the industry as a racegoer, punter, racehorse and broodmare owner and as a journalist.

This multi-faceted experience has given him a strong insight and knowledge of all industry sectors.

As well as having owned and raced horses in partnership for many years, Ken has also been a part-owner of a mare at stud and enjoys following the breeding industry and the sales ring — areas that he finds advantageous in form analysis.

The majority of his working life has been in the media as a print journalist. He has always enjoyed working with figures and statistics — one of the reasons he developed his penchant for form analysis.

Ken was born and raised in the small rural village of Lansdowne near Taree. Developing a love for horse racing in his early teen years, he still fondly remembers spending his Saturday afternoons in front of the radio with a form guide in one hand, following his tips and scribbling down the results.

Ken's first race track experiences were in the Taree and Port Macquarie areas — and bush meetings remain a favourite day out. One of Ken's most memorable moments was his first trip to a city meeting for the 1996 Golden Slipper — a big occasion for a country kid.

He saw Merlene win the Slipper but his most vivid memory on that day came earlier on the program when the mighty Octagonal won the BMW as a three-year-old.

Ken's highlight as an owner was when his galloper Furious Jet ran second at Rosehill, splitting class gallopers Catkins and Sessions. They went on to become Stakes winners, while Ken's horse never progressed beyond a provincial win – such is racing!
