I just read in today, in a Racenet article, that stated Carbine won this race in 1894, as a $1.50 favourite. With such a champion, it seemed a real bold move to travel that far. Does anyone know his method of travel. Surely it was by sea back then.

I have solved it - there was another horse named Carbine by Tremando out of Trishna, foaled in 1890 - the Railway Stakes was run over 12 furlongs in 1894 - he also won the WATC Derby in 1894

Tod I looked through the Railway Stakes records and it states Carbine won in 1894

This is very strange as his record does not mention this race.

According to records his last race was April 1891.

Old Jack was retired to Stud due to chronic feet issues.

Horses probably travelled back and forth to England by ship via that course.

Carbine left Australia to go to English shores in 1895. 

Someone with Stud Books would have to sort this out.
