What Is Wrong With Sydney Racing ?

Saturday's acceptances would seem to be very light on for Major Racing.
Craven Plate Gr3. - 7 acceptances
Roman Consul Gr2. - 8 acceptances
Flight Stakes Gr1. - 8 acceptances
Not to mention the 2 main Group 1's. Epsom and Metropolitan 13 acceptances each. Can anybody remember the last time Sydney Metropolitan racing had capacity fields?
Has anybody got a reason or remedy ?

Prize money has reached the levels that owners and trainers can search around for good paying races and dodge many other good runners. The horses this weekend are spread over Moonee Valley, Caulfield and Flemington and Sydney. Choice of 3 meets in melb v 1 in Sydney.
OK may not completely explain the melb v Sydney as the moment but in general many races may have low numbers but there are several on around the same time where they can run.. ie why race Winx and run 2nd when you can win 100,000 in another race.Too many so called G1' these days

It is a case of what is wrong with Aussie racing and especially Sydney.

We just don't have enough good horses that are worthy of running in Group and Listed races and even the city Saturday races.

Many of those that contest the above races are just goats and really we don't want more of them in the race so in one way you could say there is an upside to the smaller fields.

As you say, look at this years Epsom and Metropolitan, they are a light of other days. But I have been saying that for a long time about current racing quality in Aussie.
