The Justin Warwick-trained five-year-old gelding Material Man put up a really good effort in taking out his first stakes race, his eighth win from 12 starts to date. He began well and soon settled outside the leader (Rosmartini), going at a very steady early tempo. He moved up well as the pace picked up from the 600m, went to the front at the 200m and then held on to score comfortably, sprinting home in a quick 33.86 (last 600m).
