The Bjorn Baker-trained colt Coolring, who showed promise with two seconds in his first three starts, scored his first win in good style. He was quickly away, went to the front and set a quick early tempo (first 600m 34.34) racing a little keenly in blinkers. He grabbed a good break on straightening and fought back well after his early efforts to score by a neck. The short-priced favourite ($1.29) Pera Pera had a good trip in third place to the turn, went to second at the turn and kept fighting on under pressure in the straight to finish second after appearing to have every chance. *ANZ
