Bellmaine Stakes (G3)
A Time For Julia began well and settled in third place before improving three deep approaching the home turn. She took the lead at the 200m and fought on nicely for a good first-up win. Danestroem was smartly away from barrier nine and raced outside the leader before taking a narrow lead on straightening. She then battled gamely for (long neck) second. Bonaria was ninth on the rails to the turn but was blocked for a run in the early part of the straight. She got into the clear that the 100m and then ran on well for a late-closing third, looking a little unlucky. The WA-trained Bippo No Bungus was sixth on the rails, got a good run through at 200m going to fourth at the 100m and she then fought on to hold that position to the post. The former WA-trained mare Power Princess ($3.75 fav) raced towards the rear of the field, wide with cover. She got into the clear at the 400m and just kept battling on to finish eighth, beaten five lengths. The well performed Sydney-trained mare Arinosa was well back to the turn but was blocked from the 200m point and was not extended in finishing (six lengths) tenth. *ANZ
