Chris Waller-trained colt Spatsizi broke through for his first win in three starts, albeit narrowly. He began brilliantly and went immediately to the front, he then steadied the pace, fought off a couple of early challengers in the straight and then lasted to win in a photo. The Gerald Ryan-trained Suboric settled back in second last place in the eight-horse field, fanned deep rounding the home turn and then ran on strongly in the sprint home to just miss, finishing a close second in a very good effort at only his second race start. He is a horse to watch.
