Say from SA: Morphettville - Saturday, 31st December 2022

Back at headquarters this Saturday with Morphettville hosting a competitive nine-race card to sink our teeth into.

Mixed results for us last weekend. The progressive Validated got us off to a flyer in the opener when shedding his maiden tag with a barnstorming finish, but the fortunes would end there as Jessica Eaton aboard Lacrima was unable to secure clear running room until it was all too late – ultimately stopping us from bookending the Murray Bridge meeting.

With room for improvement, the form has been done for this weekend's action and onwards and upwards we go.

We have to wait a few races but our best of the day comes in race six with the Andrew Bobbin-trained Yulong Patrol.

The six-year-old gelding looks to have returned in near career best form, putting together two close finishes in his resuming efforts. Form from his last start second has stacked up strongly, with three subsequent winners and two place-getters from eight runners.

Stepping out to a winning trip third-up where he boasts a healthy record, the booking of leading man Barend Vorster is a huge push for his chances.

Should prove mighty tough to hold out.

Our other play for the day comes in the opener with Vorster once again and his mount Larimer Street.

Although yet to notch up a win fresh, David Jolly's runner has been a model of consistency since coming to South Australia and is now set to return in a grade below his best.

It's hard not to lean towards whoever Vorster is piloting at the moment, with the crafty veteran boasting an impressive 26% winning strike rate from his last 50 starts.

While Aston Rapova is racing in great touch, I expect the small field to suit Larimer Street first-up and his low draw should see him land in a stalking position and ready to pounce at the business end.
