ROSEHILL September 24

RACE 3 (12) QUALITY TIME: German import is into his second Australian prep and is set to rise quickly after breaking through for his first local win over 1550m at Canterbury. He dominated from the front in heavy ground to win by almost four lengths under 58kg in a sure sign Chris Waller has now worked him into the form that saw win three times up to 2200m in Europe. Obviously likes soft tracks and rates to keep improving with a handy 3.5kg drop in weight off his last start.

RACE 8 (15) SHE'S EXTREME: The Golden Rose has not been a fillies race but it's clear the current crop of girls have had the wood on the boys since last season and they clearly have the form and ratings to dominate this edition. The value lies with this proven G1 winner with her expected improvement from her excellent first-up third over 1200m in the heavy at Randwick when she came from last in adverse conditions, running the fastest last 600m under 56kg. Fitter with weight relief, she's been top shelf from day one in all conditions and the draw gives her the opportunity to settle closer and enjoy a soft run over this more suitable trip.

RACE 9: (13) WAR ETERNAL: Progressive 4YO backs up off his luckless second over 1400m at Randwick last Saturday when he just failed to peg back the winner under the topweight of 58.5kg. Jumps in class but proved he is a genuine Group horse last season when he won a BM 78 over 1400m at this course before a fourth in the G1 Randwick Guineas and third in the G2 Alister Clark in Melbourne. Bjorn Baker has a great strike rate with his runners on short turn arounds and it's evident this Pierro entire is ready to go to a new peak third up dropping 5.5kg to the limit off last week's excellent placing.

RACE 2 (13) VERBEK: Hard to miss first-up. Conditions suit.

RACE 6: (1) BEST OF BORDEAUX: Suited back to 1100m. Has the class edge

PLAYING THE QUADDIE

RACE 7: Very competitive field of mares with the track pattern by this stage of the day crucial for those drawn wide. They may be in the right place with the wide gates for (1) NIMALEE, (6) PALAISIPAN and (11) MEG working to their benefit as they have the right form and figures. Can't dismiss (2) STARTANTES to improve second up and the fit and honest (13) KATALIN is also in the mix. Watch for a bold fresh run from (14) DYNASTIES off her excellent trial. Happy to oppose the over-rated (8) ESPIONA – should be double her price on her first-up performance when she was reluctant to find the line. Improving track conditions will be critical for (3) ELECTRIC GIRL and (4) JAMAEA.

RACE 8: Only one Golden Rose win by a filly in its 20-year history but this is their year as they have dominated the current crop at the top level since last season and have superior ratings performances to the males. The Run To The Rose is the key form race - six have done the double in 20 years and eight of last 10 GR winners contested the RTTR. The RTTR winner (16) IN SECRET was so strong through the line that she clearly rates as the one to beat but her odds are no luxury against the proven G1 winners (14) FIREBURN and (15) SHE'S EXTREME as they will be favoured by an affected track and can win if they run to their best. In Secret's stablemate (7) GOLDEN MILE best of the colts. He is on a rapid upward spiral and was so impressive beating a lesser field in the Ming Dynasty when favourably weighted. No knock on the Melbourne form of (3) JACQUINOT after doing a job on the classy Aft Cabin first-up at Caulfield. He's trialled OK to offset the month between runs but his Golden Slipper failure in the heavy says he is the one who will need to be on top of the ground. (4) SEJARDAN, (6) PROMITTO and (17) PARIS DIOR for wider exotics.

RACE 9: Good Epsom preview. Like the profile for the big improver (13) WAR ETERNAL on the quick backup with weight relief from his Randwick placing last Saturday. His autumn form in Group races is good enough. (11) OLD FLAME bypassed the affected conditions last week which means he is a month between runs but he rates to win off his first-up win in a strong form race and he's still got a lot more to offer. Course specialist (2) ELLSBERG had his chance first-up and can regress when second up. However it's impossible to ignore his stats across the board at this track. Expect strong fresh runs from (1) MOUNT POPA and well weighted (10) SURF DANCER off good trials. (8) ATISHU did more than enough first-up to be a value inclusion.

RACE 10: Expect a strong betting race with a host of chances. Genuine improver (8) KIPSBAY is obvious as he's been so impressive posting big figures in his two wins since resuming for new stable. Saving on a fitter (7) NASTURTIUM as they both could be advantaged from wide gates at the end of the day. Easy to make a case for the talented but wayward (4) FIRE with winkers going on. Plenty of on pace pressure in the first 600m from (1) TRISTATE (gear changes), (6) AUTHENTIC JEWEL (good trials) and (16) EBHAAR will suit the closers (3) A VERY FINE RED and (5) STARMAN. They rate well on their fresh form but be wary of their inside gates. Favourable conditions for a fitter (13) FOX FIGHTER - value for the exotics.

SKINNY PLAY: 1-2-6-11/14-15-16/11-13/4-5-7-8

GOING WIDE: 1-2-6-11-13-14/3-7-14-15-16/1-8-10-11-13/3-4-5-7-8-13

TRIAL POINTERS

RANDWICK September 13: Dual G1 winner SEPTEMBER RUN produced an encouraging trial that suggests she will again be a spring player. Her strong second making ground late in the open heat over 742m (44.24; 33.81) was positive improvement on her recent trial at Canterbury. Crack Melbourne 3YO JACQUINOT took the eye in the 1050m open heat (63.78; 34.50) won by EXPAT. Hugh Bowman had him last under a good hold at the 600m and only allowed him to run home over the last 100m to finish sixth with his best work through the line. In the fastest 1050m heat (63.29; 34.68) talented stakes winner DYNASTIES produced one of the best trials of the morning with her big finish from last to finish third

WARWICK FARM September 9: Capitalist colt ECONOMICS is primed for good things judging by his impressive work to win his fast 815m heat (47.32) where he put away his last 600m in the quickest sectional of the session (33.27). He had only two starts last season for a win and a second on country tracks and is obviously a colt of much better standard. WINNING VERSE recorded a smart 815m heat win (47.86; 34.95) with SHOWTIME LADY also impressing with her strong third.

CANTERBURY September 1: A sharp 900m trial won by AUTHENTIC JEWEL (57.32; 37.96). Others to take the eye in the open heats included DIAMIL.

GOSFORD August 29: SURF DANCER was an efficient winner of his 1000m open heat (61.72; 35.82) in his first trial since he won the South Grafton Cup in July.
