ROSEHILL May 20

Best Bets

RACE 6 (5) REDIENER: Going well with a strong Kensington win over 1400m carrying 60.5kg before giving away too much start in a leader dominated race when a late closing third in this class over 1600m at Gosford. He's open to further improvement and with the switch to 3kg apprentice Jasper Franklin he'll meet the Gosford winner Token Capitalist 5.5kg better. Returning to his home track from a favourable gate enhances his prospects.

RACE 8 (12) SUBSTANTIAL: Snowden-trained import into his first local prep and is ready to peak after three starts in Sydney and Brisbane. Last time he ran into one of Brisbane's most promising horses when second to Antino over 1400m at Eagle Farm after two solid efforts in his first two Australian starts in Sydney. The Eagle Farm form is strong as the third horse has since won. He's the winner of three races up to 1609m in the UK and this looks the right fit for him with the addition of winkers to his gear.

RACE 9 (6) BOIS D'ARGENT: French import has missed a place only once in 15 starts with his European form including four wins from 1600m to 2000m. Came off a break of six weeks for an excellent third in the Gosford Cup (2000m) after a tough run for his second placing in three local starts, having finished third in the $750,000 Rosehill Cup over this course in the spring at his Australian debut. Must be hard to beat with expected improvement off his Gosford placing.

For Value

RACE 4 (3) SHALAILED: He was set to resume at Scone last week but John O'Shea has backed his judgement by waiting an extra week (better track conditions?) to give this talented 4YO his first start as a gelding.  His Group form is certainly good enough for this class and the addition of blinkers is another positive as his recent strong trials point to him being ready to fire fresh.

RACE 10 (7) DARALINA BELLE: Flew to the line with a fast last 200m sectional for an impressive third first-up over 1200m at Gosford in a stronger race. Must be fitter and will be suited by a strong pace on this bigger track, conditions that can see her add to her excellent record when she races against her own sex.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM May 9: Top notch filly FIREBURN had been freshened since her fourth in the ATC Oaks with this trial appearance obviously designed to hone her for a Brisbane campaign. Her class came to the fore in her 1200m heat as she sat three deep three lengths off the pace before working home nicely to take the upper hand in the last 50m. It was solid work but the time was pedestrian (74.35; 34.91). NOVEMBER RHYTHM has been placed in four of his six starts and looks ready for a maiden win after a strong win in his 811m heat. He led with ease and travelled well within himself to post the fastest time of the 10 short course heats (48.00; 33.74). Won by a comfortable margin and the form in his heat has been substantiated as a subsequent Kembla Grange winner finished fourth.

HAWKESBURY May 8: DUAIS continued her trial prep for a first-up tilt at the Doomben Cup with a strong third in the fastest 1200m heat won by SIDEREAL. She tracked into the trial from last and ran strongly through the line but her best work was past the post as she was allowed to run along for another 400m under a good hold from Sam Clipperton.

CANTERBURY May 5: Strong Pierro filly QUEEN OF DRAGONS should soon pick up her maiden after this impressive 900m heat win (58.89; 37.17). Came off the leaders back in the straight and after balancing up responded with style, impressing with her strong surge through the line under a kind ride.

RANDWICK May 1: Champion sprinter Giga Kick won his 1045m heat in good time (63.34; 34.73) with a nice trial behind him from SINAWANN. He took the eye with a big surge from the rear, going through the line better than any rival including the winner.

WARWICK FARM April 14: Tancred Stakes winner DUAIS had her first trial since last year's Melbourne Cup in the open heat over 1175m on the polytrack, showing surprising freshness to work stylish to the line from off the pace for a soft win (72.48; 34.81).
