GOSFORD August 29

15 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 6 x 1000m (4 Open; 2 Maiden); 8 x 800m (3 Open; 5 Maiden)

A good session for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott winning four heats with some unexposed talent.

They have a nice prospect in ON THE BEACH, an unraced Not A Single Doubt filly who has now won two trials in the style of a certain maiden winner.

She won a heat at Rosehill on August 12 and looks ready to go to the races after an impressive win in her 1000m heat (61.41; 35.75) where she led after 200m by four lengths, cam e back to them on the turn then sprinted to the line with fast last 200m to win by more than four lengths.

Stablemte SURF DANCER was an efficient winner of his 1000m open heat (61.72; 35.82) in his first trial since he won the South Grafton Cup in July. The stable also won maiden heats over 1000m with GULF OF LION (61.79; 36.28) and 800m with the unraced HOWGOODAREYOU (50.30; 35.59), a nice So You Think filly with definite scope for improvement.

Kris Lees gave his classy gelding RUSTIC STEEL his first trial since his successive wins in The Coast and Scone Cup in May and he looks set for another successful campaign after working home from five lengths off the speed for a strong win in the fastest 1000m heat (60.52; 35.46). He got the better of the well performed former Victorian SHOTMAKER in his first trial for Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle since his transfer from the Price/Kent stable in Melbourne.

Quality mare GREAT NEWS also trialled nicely to win her 1000m heat (60.96; 34.74) in a strong start to her spring prep and CRUEL SUMMER showed he had held his form well after a short freshen winning his 1000m heat (61.51; 35.47) with something in hand after tracking wide.

WARWICK FARM August 29

Inside Grass; Soft 6

12 Heats – 3 x 787m (3 Open); 3 x 784m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 3 x 781m (1 Open; 2 Maiden); 3 x 1200m (1 Open; 2 Maiden)

Heavy fog blanketed the early heats with the runners in the first trial featuring some big names only visible over the last 200m.

This heat over 787m (47.15) was impossible to assess and no sectional time for the last 600m could be recorded. The winner SEJARDAN railed through on the inside of the leader BACCHANALIA for a solid win without either being extended. BIG PARADE held his ground to finish third with KEMENTARI finishing off like he normally does in trials for a strong fourth. PAULELE was further back having an easy time.

Golden Slipper winner FIREBURN had her second trial in the first 1200m heat won by the free running SUPER VINO (72.98; 35.81) and worked kindly under a quiet ride to finish fifth. The winner went out keenly and looked good dropping the other leader IOWA at the 200m to run away and score by more than three lengths.

Sharp all the way winners in the shorter heats included WAY TO THE STARS (fastest 787m heat 46.80; 33.97); WALKIN'TALKIN' (787m 47.03; 33.84); SINALOA (fastest 784m heat 46.84; 34.08); ENUENDO (781m 47.28; 34.41) and the unraced trial star EXSENSIBLE, recording his third trial win since May in the fastest 781m heat (46.91;34.14).

There were some nice trials in the maiden heats from WRITROSE, SHIPS AHOY, ATLANTIC OCEAN; SELOUS and FLOATING.

NOTED TRIALS
