HAWKESBURY December 19

Course Proper; Soft 5

18 Heats – 7 x 1000m (3 Open; 4 Maiden); 11 x 800m (2 Open; 3 2YO; 6 Maiden)

PO KARE KARE (Bryce Heys): Talented mare has won two of her first six starts and is set for more success after a strong performance in her fast 800m heat (47.24; 34.06) won by a handy type in LUNA VOLANTI. She was ridden with no urgency by Alysha Collett to settle last and was eight lengths off the leader at the 500m before surging over the last 100m to finish a strong third with Collett keeping her under a tight hold through the line.

SILENTSAR (Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou): Lightly raced maiden failed first-up as a well tried favourite but expect a turnaround next time after this impressive trial win. Led his 1000m heat clearly after 100m and was so eager to run that he was five in front turning for home. Given a reminder at the 200m to keep him focused, the 3YO coasted over the last 100m to win by 4.5 lengths in the quickest of the seven heats over the distance (57.31; 34.19).

STEEL CITY (Ciaron Maher/David Eustace): Top stable have a smart prospect in this Merchant Navy half sister to G1 winner September Run. This was her first trial and she looked a readymade runner leading her 800m heat easily and running away with it to score by 3.7 lengths, posting the quickest time in the three 2YO heats (47.47; 34.54) with plenty in hand.

WYONG December 16

Course Proper; Soft 5

17 Heats – 6 x 1000m (3 Open; 3 Maiden); 11 x 845m (2 2YO; 6 Maiden; 3 Open)

OAKFIELD DUKE (Kristen Buchanan): This robust grey has won four of his first six starts and you can expect him to build on that record after his impressive win in the fastest of the 11 heats over 845m (49.73; 34.26). The noted speedster PERFECT STYLE led by six lengths at the 600m before this gelding cut him back easily from the 400m under a cold ride from Aaron Bullock. It was easy as you like over the last 200m as he cruised to the line almost three lengths clear with the others left spread out over almost 14 lengths.

SECRET SPY (Greg McFarlane): This unraced 4YO by Al Maher won his first trial at Muswellbrook in September and backed it up with a sharp win in a fast 845m heat (50.26; 33.89), leading easily and sprinting off the turn to win by more than four lengths. Posted excellent sectionals from the 600m.
