WARWICK FARM March 17

Inside Grass; Good 4

16 Heats – 4 x 1200m (3 Open; 1 Maiden); 4 x 799m (3 Open; 1 2YO); 4 x 797m (2 2YO; 2 3YO); 4 x 794m (4 Maiden)

LADY BROOK (Joseph Pride): This 6YO mare is a six time winner and retains her zest for competition with two recent trials pointing to her racing well when she resumes. Sprinted keenly to the line from off the pace to win her 799m heat (47.03; 33.05) and while it was a narrow margin there was a lot to like about her work over the last 100m.

LONRIOLI (Richard & Will Freedman): This lightly raced Lonhro filly with one win from her first four starts is a runner. Cruised in the lead to win the fastest 797m heat (47.12; 33.24) with plenty in reserve and impressed by the way she went on with her work past the line. She took on black type after her maiden win – a fair indication of the opinion held of her by her stable – and will be well placed in a suitable fillies race when she resumes.

STRUFF (Richard Collett): Fastest of the four 794m heat winners by a long way (46.74; 33.23), winning with style as she surged over the last 50m to get the better of the pacy leader. This Winning Rupert filly was placed in a strong maiden at Kembla Grange on debut and should soon graduate from that class.

This was another session where the Waterhouse/Bott stable dominated the 2YO heats, winning all three trials with a trio of unraced youngsters - AZULA won the fastest of the four 799m heats (46.84; 33.09); first time trialler VANQUISHED finished strongly to win his 797m heat (47.36; 33.33); and HEAD OF THE HERD had to work to record his third trial win in a quicker 797m heat (47.21; 33.39).

ROSEHILL March 13

Inside Grass; Good 4

(15 Heats – 6 x 1030m (4 Open; 1 2YO; 1 Maiden); 9 x 900m (2 Open; 4 2YO; 1 3YO; 2 Maiden)

ALTIVO (Hawkes Racing): This UK-bred 4YO by Wootton Basset was having his first trial since he won his first two provincial starts over 1250m and 1500m in October and November and it's obvious the Hawkes team have plenty to work with. Worked well within himself to finish a soft fourth in his 900m heat (54.92; 35.28), running through the line with plenty to offer in the style of a horse set to rise quickly through the classes.

LIBERTAD (Annabel Neasham): Excellent work by this unraced Russian Revolution colt in his third trial, doing his best work late to finish third in his 1030m heat won by a handy type in BOBBY SHIRAZ (64.16; 36.612).  Sat back and wide with cover before closing sweetly under no pressure to back up the ability he had displayed winning his previous trial at Rosehill. One to watch closely when he debuts.

MAKARENA (Hawkes Racing): Reckon there will be a boom on this unraced Snitzel filly by the time she gets to the races. Showed abundant natural talent to win her 900m heat (55.20; 35.82) after she gave a free running leader four lengths start from the 100m, going up a gear as soon as she was given a nudge by Zac Lloyd to surge through the line in great style. Few youngsters win their first trial in this manner.
