RANDWICK May 15

A Grass; Soft 7

16 Heats – 1 x 1200m (Open); 9 x 1050m (2 Open; 5 2YO; 1 Maiden; 1 3YO); 6 x 740m (1 Open; 3 2YO; 2 3YO)

Veteran sprinter EDUARDO dispelled any questions about his well-being with a strong win, recording easily the fastest time in the nine heats over 1050m.

He looked in great health as he led his heat easily and was never under pressure to record a clear cut win with plenty in reserve. The merit of his trial was on the clock as his time of 62.89 (34.86) was almost 1.5 seconds faster than the next best heat over the distance. Behind him the efforts of TASHI and KING OF SPARTA took the eye with their good work over the last 200m.

Another fast sprinter CANNONBALL also stamped his class on his 740m heat with a sharp win by more than four lengths in his first trial since he was placed in the G1 Galaxy, sprinting home in fast time over the last 200m (43.48; 32.88).

The A grass was well into the soft range with the inside section avoided by most riders. While the heat times reflected the track condition I expect some good winners to come out of these heats.

AMRAP (John O'Shea): Promising maiden filly by Per Incanto looks to have improved nicely since her first two starts in January. Settled midfield before surging between runners over the last 200m and running through the line with good purpose to win her 1050m heat (64.97; 35.70)

NEED SOME LUCK (Peter & Paul Snowden): Unraced Rubick colt is showing plenty of talent with two wins and second from his three trials. Strong work to run past the leaders under a kind ride over the last 200m of his 740m heat (44.95; 34.08) in his first appearance since he won a Hawkesbury trial in February.

SMART LEGEND (Les Bridge): This maiden 3YO by So You Think goes a lot better than what he showed in two well-spaced starts over the last 10 months. Impressed by the way he controlled his 1050m heat to lead with ease with Kerrin McEvoy kidding to them before letting him rip home with fast acceleration over the last 200m. He sprinted away to win the trial by almost five lengths and while the time wasn't flash (65.14; 34.63) be sure that he's got the ability.
