Administrative issues meant Alligator Blood's Melbourne spring campaign almost ended before it began, but trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and his fans are not the only ones relieved he was eventually cleared to race.

Vinery Stud, which stands his sire All Too Hard, also breathed a sigh of relief.

The six-year-old gelding has used September to post the two highest Timeform ratings recorded by a product of All Too Hard, a son of Casino Prince and Helsinge who is a half-brother to the legendary Black Caviar.

Alligator Blood went 123 to win last Sunday's Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m), which was the same figure he posted in his narrow defeat at the hands of I'm Thunderstruck in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) on September 10.

Those efforts better the previous top mark of 122, recorded by Behemoth in two of his three Group 1 wins, while Hong Kong star Wellington's best rating in his three Group 1 victories was the 121 he posted in the Chairman's Sprint Prize (1200m).

Forbidden Love, also a three-time winner at the highest level, went 119 in the Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and George Ryder Stakes (1500m) earlier this year.

"He's had a terrific 12 months really and, in that time, only two active stallions have had four individual Group 1 winners, All Too Hard and I Am Invincible," Vinery Stud bloodstock manager Adam White said.

"That's a great accolade for a stallion like All Too Hard to have and the Group 1 winners he's had are not just Group 1 winners, they're multiple Group 1 winners."

Where I Am Invincible commands $247,500 a serve at Yarraman Park, All Too Hard stands for $35,000 plus GST at Vinery.

All Too Hard stood for $66,000 in his first two seasons, producing Behemoth in the second of those, while Alligator Blood and Wellington are members of his third crop, when he stood for $55,000.

He again stood for $55,000 in season four, when Forbidden Love was conceived, while his fees the past five seasons have been $44,000, $33,000, $27,500 two years in a row before rising to $33,000 again last year.

He covered the biggest book of his career – 191 – in 2020 and White expects him to produce good results for many years to come.

"Over the last 12 months I've had so many people say, 'he's so underrated and he's doing a terrific job', but I don't think that's the case anymore because I think people actually rate him as a stallion and what he's achieving," White said.

"He's a stallion you can get to for under $35,000, which is very difficult to do nowadays.

"He's always attracted a good, healthy book and he's got another good, healthy book this season."

All Too Hard was one of only five stallions to have one of their progeny earn a Timeform rating of 123 or above in September and the only horse to do it more than once.

Eduardo (Host) returned the highest rating for the month, 125 in the G3 Concorde Stakes (1000m), while Nature Strip (Nicconi), I'm Thunderstruck (Shocking) and Zaaki (Leroidesanimaux) all posted a peak rating for the month of 124.

They were the top-rating performers in a month that saw the 26 individual horses post a Timeform rating of at least 116 and all were by different stallions.

Rounding out the top 10 for September were Anamoe (Street Boss) and Top Ranked (Dark Angel), who both rated 122, and 121-raters Gold Trip (Outsrip), Mr Brightside (Bullbars) and Mo'Unga (Savabeel).

All up, 89 horses posted a Timeform rating of at least 110 in September with Snitzel, Zoustar and So You Think the most heavily-represented with five each.
