The return of King's Gambit rightly dominates the talk ahead of Saturday's Canonbury Stakes, but there is no shortage of interest in a number of other runners in the race.

Shinzo, in particular, is one many have been keen to see get to the races, none more so than the group that race him.

The Chris Waller-trained, Coolmore-and-partners-owned colt is by Snitzel out of Samaready.

Samaready, a daughter of More Than Ready, was a star on the track, winning a Blue Diamond Stakes and Moir Stakes, and has already shown an ability to throw a good horse, having produced Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Exhilarates.

But, sadly, her career in the breeding barn has been anything by straight-forward with Exhilarates her only foal to have raced.

The birth of Exhilarates came between two lost foals by All Too Hard, a filly then a colt, while she had no luck after visiting both Fastnet Rock and All Too Hard again in 2017.

She missed to I Am Invincible in 2018, returned to Snitzel in 2019 and the following year was offered, in-foal, at Inglis's Chairman's Sale, where Tom Magnier was happy to go to $1.8 million for her.

There was much relief when she delivered a healthy colt, who looks to have embraced the Chris Waller regime with two wins from three trials in preparation for the debut.

He is into barrier two in the Canonbury Stakes, which is down to a field of five following the scratchings of Mafia and The Little Pumper, with Brenton Avdulla to take the ride.

Shinzo will be the last product of Samaready to race in Australia after she failed to get in-foal after being served by Justify in 2020 before being exported to Ireland around this time last year.
