A colt by Tally Ho Stud's Kodiac (Danehill) was the most expensive lot to sell during the second and final day of the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale on Wednesday when bought for €575,000 by Peter & Ross Doyle.

Sold by Alice Fitzgerald, the colt was catalogued as Lot 460 and is out of the winning mare Fikrah (Medicean) who has already produced three winners including the stakes placed Hey Jonesy (Excelebration).

The colt was one of two lots to sell for €500,000 or more with a son of Ten Sovereigns (No Nay Never) bought by West Bloodstock as agent for €500,000 later in the day. The colt is out of the unplaced mare Indigo Butterfly (Le Havre) who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Sand Vixen (Dubawi) who in turn produced the Group 1 winner Dream Castle. The colt was sold by Pier House Stud as Lot 505

Over the two days, 415 of the 468 lots offered were sold for €50,354,500, an increase of 24 per cent from the 2021 figure. The average was up 11 per cent to €121,336 while the median rose 16 per cent to €87,000.

BBA Ireland finished the sale as the leading buyer, spending €4,464,000 on 26 lots. Glenvale Stud was the leading vendor by aggregate, selling 21 yearlings for €4,736,000 at an average of €225,524. Mountain View Stud meanwhile was the leading vendor by aggregate (3 or more lots sold) with three yearlings sold for €714,999 at an average of €238,333.

"The expectation coming into the Orby Sale was that we would enjoy a strong trade following good results elsewhere and so we were hopeful of some improved statistic," Goffs Group Chief Executive Henry Beeby said.

"However nothing could have prepared us for the strength of the market and the vibrancy of the sale especially on day 1 which saw the world's highest priced yearling so far this autumn at €2.6 million."
