Dubawi rules at Park Paddocks

Darley stallion provides three million guinea lots on day one

Darley's Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) was the sire of the three million guinea lots to sell during day one of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 at Park Paddocks on Tuesday.  All three were bought by Godolphin who paid 1,500,000gns for Hazelwood Bloodstock's colt out of Ring The Bell (Galileo), 1,300,000gns for the filly out of Jazzi Top who was sold by Meon Valley Stud and the colt out of Persuasive who was sold by Cheveley Park Stud for 1,00,000gns. 

Buying on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin operation, Anthony Stroud outbid leading Japanese trainer Mitsu Nakauchida to secure the session topper. Consigned by Adrian and Philippa O'Brien's Hazelwood Bloodstock, the colt was bred by John Camilleri's Fairway Thoroughbreds and is out of the unplaced Galileo (Sadler's Wells) mare Ring The Bell who is a sister to Group 1 winners Hydrangea, Hermosa and The United States. 

"He's by Dubawi and comes from an excellent farm," said Anthony Stroud. "It's a cross that works and it's a wonderful family. The boss is here and he's choosing these horses. He's just a wonderful specimen of a thoroughbred really." 

Dubawi, who has had a remarkable 39 individual Group/Listed winner this year to date, was the leading sire on the opening day of the October Book 1 Sale, with his seven yearlings realising a total of 5,400,000 guineas. 

 

 

Meon Valley's Dubawi filly sets early pace 
The first of the seven figure yearlings came early in the day as Lot 3. The Meon Valley Stud-sold filly is out of Group 2 winner Jazzi Top (Danehill Dancer) who is herself a daughter of the Group 1 winner Zee Zee Top (Zafonic). 

Charlie Gordon-Watson was amongst the bidders to set the early pace and Moyglare Stud's Fiona Craig soon joined the fray, before the pair were usurped by agent Anthony Stroud on behalf of Godolphin. 

"It's a good way to start the sale," remarked Anthony Stroud. "She is a very attractive filly from a very good farm and there is nothing more to be written about Dubawi is there? The boss picked her out and he has had a lot of success with the family going back to Opera House and Kayf Tara." 

 

 

Cheveley Park's Dubawi Sells for 1,000,000gns
The third Dubawi to sell for seven figures was Lot 127 who is out of Group 1 winning Dark Angel (Acclamation) mare Persuasive who is herself a half-sister to the Charlie Appleby-trained 2021 Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes (6f) winner Creative Force (Dubawi) and Listed winner Tisbutadream (Dream Ahead). The colt was sold by Cheveley Park Stud. 

"He is a very nice horse and Cheveley Park Stud do a fantastic job. He is out of a very good mare and by Dubawi, so there's a lot to like. He will go back to Moulton Paddocks," Stroud said. 

"He is about twice the size of Creative Force. But if his heart is half as big as Creative Force's then we will be very happy."

 

 

Shadwell Stud strike for Siyouni filly  
A total of 16 lots sold on Tuesday for 500,000gns or more and included the Watership Down-consigned daughter of Siyouni (Pivotal) who was bought by Shadwell Estate Company for 880,000gns. 

Sold as Lot 24, the filly is the first foal out of Group 2 winner Lah Ti Dar (Dubawi) who is herself a sister to three-time Group 1 winner and young shuttle sire Too Darn Hot, being out of Dar Re Mi (Singspiel). 

Hubie de Burgh, stood alongside Australian breeder John Camilleri and Al Shira'aa Farms' Kieran Lalor both made bold bids to secure the filly, but it was Angus Gold who prevailed on behalf of Sheikha Hissa's Shadwell Stud. 

Angus Gold explained that Sheikha Hissa is looking to add high class fillies to the Shadwell broodmare band. 

"Sheikha Hissa is very excited to have bought a filly with such an outstanding pedigree. There are an awful lot of Group 1 horses under the second and third dams, and this is a beautiful filly who has been excellently nurtured by the Watership Down team. We are hoping to buy fillies with pedigrees for the future and this is one of the strongest pedigrees in the catalogue." 

Sheikha Hissa, who has been in attendance at Tattersalls, was buying for the first time at the sale, an experience the Shadwell principal has enjoyed. 

"Everyone has been so welcoming and kind to Sheikha Hissa, it's been really enjoyable for her," Gold added. 

Watership Down Stud's manager Simon Marsh was thrilled that Sheikha Hissa's first purchase at Book 1 was the farm's homebred filly: "We are delighted with the price and feel it is an excellent one. She is a very nice filly and we have an enormous amount of the family to breed from on the farm. 

"We are thrilled that Angus Gold, Shadwell and Sheikha Hissa have purchased her. She is a fantastic filly for anyone breeding and we are incredibly lucky to have been breeding from this fantastic family for 25 years. We wish Sheikha Hissa the very best of luck with her." 

 

Figures rise
Day one of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale saw 139 of the 162 lots offere sell, producing a clearance rate of 86 per cent. WIth 16 per cent more horses sold this year, the aggreate rose 27 per cent to 31,993,000gns while the average increased 10 per cent to 230,165gns and the median was up five per cent to 160,000gns.
