Talented Field To Contest Bold Trease Stayers Final

It's a race named in honour of the greatest ever stayer in Australian greyhound history. The only greyhound to ever win four Sandown Cups. The last of which had to be seen to be believed. Lifting himself off the canvas to eventually conquer a mountain. And all achieved long before even Makybe Diva did what she did in horse racing winning three Melbourne Cups.

The Immortal Bold Trease and his record breaking four Sandown Cups.
The Immortal Bold Trease and his record breaking four Sandown Cups.

The Bold Trease heats caused a few upsets. Sadly in two separate heats the hopes of Western Australian chaser Tsar Bell and talented Mepunga Ruby fell down a sink hole as both found traffic in running.Tsar Bell sadly being injured in running when dragged down at the first turn.

Coming off the back of her Topgun Stayers victory at The Meadows, a track that is not to her liking.Moraine Suzie showed she is in red hot form running down Lakeview Patsy who cut her off at the first turn. As the $2.30 favourite in heat two Moraine Suzie won by an ever widening 8 lengths.

Cawbourne Magic backed up two days later after running Thursday in the Middle Distance Championship at Dapto to run down Group 1 Sandown Cup winner Untapped who will no doubt gain fitness after having just one run prior in the last month.

Cawbourne Magic had never seen Sandown Park and the mercurial training effort by the Lord's to back him up two days later and win in a highly respectable 41.56 was amazing. He balanced up nicely down the back straight the second time with Untapped in his sights. The $3 favourite for the first heat would have derived plenty from the run.

Korda for Angela Langton stole the show in heat three racing four wide at the first turn. In what was a messy heat the run of Tsar Bell can be completely forgiven as a number of runners jammed heading to the first turn. Korda in the slowest time of the heats in 41.84.

Heat four seen recent Wagga Marathon winner Stagger Out Lee get the chocolates upsetting the apple cart when odds on favourite Mepunga Ruby blundered the start and made the task too hard as she chased runaway leader Jimmy Intention. Stagger Out Lee for Jack Strutt showed all his stamina to hook two wide and win in the home straight at $6.60.

The final field for Saturday's night Bold Trease is packed to the eye balls with talent. Can Untapped a winner of the Group 1 Sandown Cup like Bold Trease honour the Hall of famer and win the big race named in his honour?Only time will tell.
