Stagger Strutts Her Stuff In Bold Trease

Stagger Out Lee certainly wasn't staggering on Saturday night at Sandown Park in the Group One Bold Trease. Like the rainy skies above her on race night she announced herself like a bolt of lightning to claim victory in emphatic style.

The daughter of champion sire My Bro fabio showed all her stamina and tenacity in the Bold Trease Final. Tailing out at the back of the field Stagger Out Lee encountered interference in the run on numerous occasions. It was fair to say that half way down the back straight the second time round that she was realistically no chance to win.

Since her record breaking track record run at Wagga in the marathon over the 760 metres the versatile bitch has taken her ability to another level. She overcame a small but talented field to secure her spot in the final when beating odds on favourite Mepunga Ruby. Coming from behind the pace with a withering run.

The final on Saturday night ended up being a very similair run under rainy conditions and a heavy track. Her track sense was on full display as with each knock in running she balanced up and came again, coming three wide at the home turn along with talented stayer Cawbourne Magic with a withering burst more extraordinary than Yachi Bale in The Melbourne Cup.

It was a rag to riches story in the making for her trainer Jack Strutt just 24 years of age from Springvale. A small sleepy town on the outskirts of Wagga. A few years ago he was undertaking work on properties putting up fencing. A hard and labour intensive occupation, during this time Strutt was erecting fencing near a greyhound property. It wasn't long after he and his father then purchased some pups.

Strutts emotion clearly showed as he engaged with James Van De Maat post race when asked what it meant to him now being a group one trainer. The emotion was clear but what was more noticeable is what Stagger Out Lee means to Strutt and his family whom he trains the dog for. It was very much a family moment for the hobby trainer from New South Wales.

Safe to say the post race celebrations might see the five hour trip back to Silverdale take a couple of days. And rightly so after such a spine tingling victory in the Bold Trease. Congratulations to Jack and the family.
