De Campo ready to serve it up to Never Ending

Trainer Aiden De Campo is hoping he’s got the arsenal to take it up to the unbeaten Never Ending in tonight’s Team Bond-Pearl Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park.

De Campo qualified three runners for tomorrow's $50,000 event through last week's heats.

Sorridere upstaged his more fancied rival Rolling Fire to take out his heat, while Magnus Victor was also successful in taking out his heat.

Dourado's fourth placing behind Never Ending in his heat was also enough to see him qualify for tonight's Group 3.

The trio's hopes of upstaging Never Ending were given a boost at Tuesday's barrier draw when the Justin Prentice-trained pacer drew barrier eight.

Dourado, Sorridere and Magnus Victor drew slightly better in barrier four, six and 11 respectively.

De Campo said he favoured Sorridere as the best of his chances in the Pearl and hoped he could test Never Ending.

"They're all nice horses and I was happy with all three of them in the heats," De Campo told TABradio.

"Sorridere was probably the most impressive of them in the heats and he's got a bit of a barrier draw advantage on Never Ending.

"I'll be trying to push forward and find the front with him.

"Hopefully we've got Never Ending outside of us and if he's going to beat us, he will have to work to do it."

Magnus Victor showed terrific gate speed in his heat and led throughout.

A younger brother of WA Derby winner Handsandwheels, Magnus Victor will be driven by Chris Lewis tonight and De Campo said he liked what he was seeing from the gelding.

"Magnus Victor I've got a lot of time for," he said.

"He's the little brother of Handsandwheels and he's taking the same path.

"He was only just as a two-year-old.

"Every time they go out and come back they get a little bit better and a little bit tougher."

Despite the draw, Never Ending is a commanding $1.28 favourite with TABtouch, while Sorridere is the only other runner in single figures at $8.50.

Magnus Victor and Dourado are $19 and $71 chances respectively.
