Prentice hopes to travel unbeaten star

Unbeaten three-year-old Never Ending could travel to the east coast as soon as next year, following his breathtaking win in Friday’s Pearl Classic (2130m) at Gloucester Park.

The gelding stormed home to beat Sorridere and Overly Excited in Friday's feature event and take his record to nine wins from as many starts.

Trainer Justin Prentice, who won the Pearl in 2020 with Gardy's Legacy, said he hoped to take his stable star on the road.

"If it maps out well in his program, we'd love the opportunity to take him over east," Prentice told TABradio.

"It'd be great if we get that opportunity given to us.

"I don't think he's ready for a trip like that.

"We've got so many races here he's eligible for we will aim towards."

Never Ending took all before him as a two-year-old, winning the Group 1 Pearl Classic, Westbred Classic and Golden Slipper.

The trio of Group 1 wins saw Never Ending claim the Australian champion two-year-old colt or gelding of the year.

The son of Sweet Lou is set to be aimed at the three-year-old Westbred Classic and WA Derby later this year.

Prentice said he continued to be taken aback by Never Ending's performances.

"Probably since his first run I thought he was pretty special," he said.

"I was hoping he'd be capable of doing what he did on Friday, but you can never really expect it.

"They really have to have a will to want to do it being off the track like that.

"The times he's been a little bit keen in the run is just because he's so competitive."

Meanwhile, Prentice said reigning WA Derby winner Tricky Miki was nearing peak fitness after his unplaced run behind Jett Star on Friday night.

The four-year-old has gone through his five runs since the WA Derby without a win, but Prentice said he was hopeful a victory wouldn't be too far away.
