Australian Harness Racing Preview – 6th May 2023

Leading fillies and mares from Victoria look the major players in the two big trotting features for the girls at Menangle on Saturday night.

Last season's top juvenile filly Rockinwithattitude makes her three-year-old debut in the NSW Trotters Oaks while quality mares Queen Elida and Im Ready jet are set to battle out another Group 1 Trophy in the Trotters Mile.

Rockinwithattitude was somewhat of an iron filly last season winning nine of 14 starts, finishing off her juvenile campaign with three straight victories including the Group 1 Vicbred Super Series Final when last seen at Melton in December.

She draws wide on Saturday night but the strike rate is hard to knock and she will be ready to go off two trials, winning the latest.

Kiwi filly Melsadele is the query but brings good form having placed in her three starts at Alexandra Park since a maiden win at Cambridge. The ace draw gives her every chance to measure up.

Shesawish is progressing well having won a heat and the final of the Home Grown Classic in her two Victorian starts since a spell. She hasn't raced for six weeks but has been kept up to the mark with two nice trials.

Progressive filly Glamour Stride made a winning return at Shepparton in just her second start. This is a quick step up in grade but she is well drawn and has upside.

High class mare Queen Elida returns to Sydney for the Trotters Mile having put three wins together at Melton, last time beating the boys to cruise home by 12m.

That followed a win in the Group 1 Sumthingaboutmaori and she also won at the elite level over this same distance the last time she raced at Menangle. She looks very hard to stop.

Im Ready Jet is a reliable mare who has put together a string of placings that began in the Great Southern Star and she was last seen when 1.8m adrift of Queen Elida in the Sumthingaboutmaori.

She owns a 50 per cent strike rate at the mile and also placed over the distance when tackling the boys at Group 1 level at Menangle two back.

Escape The Pace brings good form from New Zealand, finishing runner up in two Alexandra Park outings since a Cambridge win.

She has a win and a placing in two tries at the distance and can measure up.

Majestic Trio steps up to the good mares but has won four of six starts at this circuit this time in and six from seven overall at the distance so deserves respect.

The Gold Bullion Finals for the three-year-olds are the features at Melton on Saturday night and the colts and geldings division in particular is an interesting clash.

Mister Hunter has been chalking up the wins but cops a tricky draw while his main rival Gawn comes off the back row.

Roryville and Cheerstolou both come off strong heat performances and from front draws are right in the mix.

Less depth in the fillies' race which looks more of a two-horse affair, heat winner Sahara Breeze rating as the one to beat with Little Miss Lily the danger after chasing her home last start.

BEST BETS:

Menangle Saturday Race 3 #5 Always Thunder @ $3.00 – has put two wins together and is well placed to land the hat trick.

Melton Saturday Race 10 #10 Regal Attire @$2.90 - has been racing in good form and this looks an easier assignment.
