It was a perfect career start for Maniatic who made a winning debut in the two-year-old colts and geldings maiden at Chantilly last week. In a race full of well-bred debutants this certainly looks a contest to keep an eye on going forward.

The Andre Fabre-trained colt seemingly knew his job early and showed plenty of knowhow to get across into a prominent position from a wide draw in stall ten. Always well placed by Maxime Guyon the pair sat in second for much of the contest tracking the leader, Atto Di Fede. The pace didn't look overly fierce and as they began to quicken at the 400m pole Maniatic began to get outpaced. The pair gradually worked their way to the front as they approached the 200m marker but were swiftly headed as the eventual runner-up, Monapia, came with what looked a winning run. However, Maxime Guyon urged his mount back to the front under hands and heels riding and he was certainly well on top at the line. It's fair to say the 1600m was probably on the sharp side for him first-time-out but he displayed a brilliant attitude and looks just the type to improve with racing.

The pedigree certainly suggests a step up in trip will suit being by Intello out a Dubawi mare (Hallucinante). Intello, a high-class performer for the same owners, was unbeaten at two before going on to G1 Prix du Jockey Club success prior to being named French Champion three-year-old. The dam, Hallucinante, raced only twice on the track and this is her first foal.

It will be interesting to see where connections opt to go next with this exciting homebred but a step up to conditions company certainly looks on the cards.
