Race 1

#1 KAHOLO ANGEL did everything correctly on debut and the 3yo colt by HAVANA GREY is the horse to beat. It could also be an ideal start for new Hong Kong apprentice ELLIS WONG, who recently arrived back in town after piloting 88 winners in Adelaide, South Australia. Indentured to Casper Fownes, Wong takes the ride off local star hoop Vincent Ho, who also cut his teeth under the tutelage of Fownes in the early 2000's. With only the one ride for the day and an advantageous 10lb claim, it should be just a sit a steer situation for the young man.
#6 JOYFUL PROSPERITY did a bit wrong when leaving the gates before closing in on KAHOLO ANGEL in the run to the line. Cheek pieces have now been added to attract focus and it's likely they'll achieve the desired response. Only a minimal difference separated the pair through the final 600m last start, so a better start can reduce the margin.
#7 SUPER BONUS has excellent gate speed and if unable to lead he won't be far off the pace. He tired noticeably through the final 300m first up but has since been back to the trials for an additional hit out. How much he improve's is a question still unanswered but he was well prepared for his debut.
#5 HOLY LAKE was slow to begin at his first start but outside of that slight indiscretion, he was generally pretty good. Natural improvement should see him competitive this time around as he was underdone first up. His closing 400m split wasn't far off where it need's to be and he maybe the surprise result.
#8 GALLANT VALOUR is the 2yo with a weight advantage over the rest and has ability to show off. However, he's extremely raw and very much in need of race experience, which is likely to cost him a win in the end. Nevertheless, a Southern Hemisphere bred 2yo is almost three, so treat him with caution.

Race 9

Queen Mother Memorial Cup
(Gp3 - 2400m - HCP)

#8 STRAIGHT ARRON was particularly impressive winning a class 2 over 1800m last start and worthy of entertaining in todays feature race. Since transferring from David Hayes to Casper Fownes the Australian import has won twice from three starts, and in between finished an unlucky fifth in the prestigious Hong Kong Derby.
#10 FIVE G PATCH steps into the deepest race he's contested since arriving from Ireland. The son of CAMELOT has a MONTJE cross through the dam and was born for a race like this. The two month gap between runs is a slight concern but he has partaken in a 1700m trial since, which brought about an excellent result.
#9 SWORD POINT is another 4yo emanating from the Hong Kong Derby and although he's had a long and rigorous campaign, he should be suited to this structure of this contest. The lower rated emerging gallopers have a solid record in this particular event and he's worthy of inclusion. The good draw and 115lbs can offer him every chance.
#1 RUSSIAN EMPEROR is the horse to beat on ratings but the handicap conditions are going to make it a challenge. Trainer Douglas Whyte was absolutely thrilled to win a Gp1 in QATAR, before a pair of competitive efforts in Dubai. He's appears happy enough since his return and the prediction of rain is major plus.
#2 SENOR TOBA has the score on the board regarding class and distance but must shoulder the biggest weight. A trip to the Middle East went terribly wrong as he failed to feature from three attempts. With two months recovery and dominant trial victory at Happy Valley leading in, he's ready once again to race.

Selections : 8,10,9,1,2

R10 - 9,8,13,14,2

Race 11

#2 AMAZING VICTORY is developing into a handy type and consistency is his middle name. The drop back in class and trip is both relevant and advantageous but the weight maybe a concern. He's right at his peak but may still sneak in one more win, which would complement an already prosperous campaign.
#4 MIGHT STRIDE has suffered defeat only twice and on both occasions legitimate excuses where justified. At a whopping 1300lbs the son of RICH ENUFF shouldn't have any concerns carrying the 133lb and is likely to run favourite. I'm unable to find something to trouble him pound for pound, but the inside draw may put him in an area of vulnerability.
#8 HYPER DRAGON BALL is a danger judged on his dominant last start win and Purton shall be well aware of MIGHTY STRIDE'S position in the run. As a lightly raced 5yo there's plenty of room to improve and the gun run looks his to enjoy. With a pull of 9lbs on MIGHT STRIDE he should be the testing material in the run to the line.
#3 MAJESTIC COLOUR has bumped into some decent opponents throughout the season and again the opposition reads tough. Blinkers have been applied, in an attempt to extract an additional length or two, and they should have the desired affect. The draw however is tricky out in gate eight so he'll require his fair share of luck.
#1 VIVA CHALEUR has races to win and shouldn't be written off just yet. He'll end up a next season horse but there's definitely a nice engine under the hood. The return in trip to 1400m is a positive move and the gate gives him every chance.
