Just the two meetings in Japan today with Kawasaki and Nagoya hosting. Nagoya looks the pick of the meetings with the feature racing throwing up a good bet.
Nagoya Race 3 #11 Rose Stier
The first of our bets at Nagoya with Rose Stier who is having her first start away from the JRA, and if the three-year-old filly brings her best she should be able to take care of these. She didn't quite measure up in maiden races at Fukushima and Nakayama but did place twice from six starts and the ratings she ran there are better than anything in this field can do. The query is she failed badly at her most recent start before a spell at Niigata but she might just be better than these.
Nagoya Race 11 #9 Win Unified
Best race of the day in Japan and I'm siding with Win Unified who was a huge winner last time out at Saga, winning a similar grade of race by 5 lengths and making it two wins in a row. The query is that was a big new peak for the ten-year-old meaning he is likely to regress, but even still, if he drops a few lengths he's still the one to beat. This is a strong race so I expect we get a decent price, with #5 Bumbun Maru the danger. He beat Win Unified when they met a few starts ago, but Win Unified did start $1.80 and has since won two more races, so I think Win Unified can turn the tables.
Kawasaki Race 5 #2 Nero Di Seppia
Handy race for the two-year-olds and I think Nero Di Seppia is the horse to beat. He made his debut here over 1400m and put up a strong rating, winning by 1.5 lengths with a massive 8 lengths back to third which is always a good sign. He may not have the best rating in the field but the horses that do, i.e. #5 Heart Of Liberty and #11 Queen Love Song, have had numerous starts whereas Nero Di Seppia isn't far off them with just one start under his belt. I expect he keeps progressing and ends up the best of these.
Kawasaki Race 9 #9 D S Magnum
Tipping D S Magnum to break through third up after recording back-to-back second placings this preparation, the latest at this track and distance when missing by 0.75 lengths. That was in a stronger race than this so the drop in grade looks ideal and he's generally quite consistent with his ratings, which are good enough to win this. It's a competitive race but he just needs to hold his level this time in and the others will need to improve to beat him.
