Racing SA Industry Track Manager Ian Ricardo and Stewards inspected the Port Lincoln Racing Club surface this week and were more than happy with the recent work undertaken to get back racing in time for the 2023 Port Lincoln Cup.

Racing SA was forced to put the Port Lincoln racing on hold for a second time this season in December after the track was deemed unsafe for racing following a wet 2022 where the track struggled to handle a busy early season schedule.

"We are pleased to say the track presents extremely well and is a vast improvement on what we saw at the end of last month,'' Ricardo said.

A considerable amount of turf replacement has taken place during the one month rest and has the surface ready for racing at next Friday's Twilight meeting.

"The track walks very consistent for the entire circumference with a very nice cover of grass,'' Ricardo said.

"The rail will be in the True position when racing returns with the track to be assessed at the conclusion of each meeting moving forward regarding rail positions."

"Tom Hull and his staff have done an amazing job over the last four weeks and full credit to them for presenting a great track given the setbacks they have experienced over the last six months."

"The club should look forward to a very positive remainder of their season,'' he said.

Port Lincoln will host their Cup meeting on March 3 and the Kimba Cup on March 19 while they have changed the name of the Port Lincoln Cup Prelude on February 19 to the McDonalds Peninsula Cup.
