The four-year-old will be bidding for a record ninth win for Aidan O'Brien with previous stars such as Yeats (2005), Soldier of Fortune (2008) and Fame and Glory (2010) tasting success in the race.

St Nicholas Abbey won the Coronation Cup in three consecutive years (2011/12/13) but the Irish trainer has not won a renewal since Highland Reel in 2017.

Point Lonsdale has won both starts since returning from a lengthy break and was particularly eye-catching when battling hard to win the Group 2 Huxley Stakes at Chester.

He will be joined by Group 1 Dubai Gold Cup winner Broome and last year's Derby fifth Changingoftheguard, who was third on reappearance in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes.

O'Brien said: "The plan is to go for the Coronation Cup with Point Lonsdale. It looked the last day like a mile and a half might suit him."
