Happenings off the track in the US

Bob Baffert's last plaint against Churchill Downs etc. has been thrown out, and in the words of the Statement from Churchill Downs "like all the others"…in a "seemingly endless, arduous and unnecessary litigation".

Baffert is under a two year suspension after Medina's Spirit was found to have an illicit drug in his system in 2021, and in June of that year suspended Baffert for 2 years and they have the right to extend that ban and referred to Baffert's "extensive history of drug violations".

Our favourite court in New York was in session again this time for the sentencing of Vet Alexander Chan who used to work with convicted Vet Kristian Rhein.  He was sentenced to 30 months.  He was one of the last to be sentenced in the huge anti-doping case in 2019 mainly involving trainer Jason Servis.  It is alleged that Servis doped almost all the horses under his control in 2019.  His sentencing will now be on July 26.

And a sad note that Fusaichi Pegasus has died from "the infirmities of old age" at Ashland Stud, Coolmore's American base.  He was 26 and leaves many talented progeny all over the world.
