And over in America

The bad weather associated with the terrible storm Ian is heading north but should not interfere too much with New York racing.

It is another "Belmont at the Big A" meeting and there are two Gr 1 races on the card.

The first is the Woodward over 1800m but unfortunately only 5 runners, with the favourite Life is Good probably deterring a lot of the competition.  Todd Pletcher trains, Irad Ortiz rides and huge odds on.

The Champagne Stakes is for 2yos and here Verifying is on 2/1 for Cox-Rosario – by Justify and looks promising.  Just because of the name we are keeping an eye on "Andiamo a Firenze" (Let's go to Florence) because of the association with one's student days.  By Speightstown out of a mare called "My Every Wish" that could explain the name.  12/1.

At Santa Anita there's the Awesome Again Gr 1 over 1800m with 8 starters.  Our old friend Country Grammer, the Dubai World Cup winner, runs in this although it could be a bit short for him.  Baffert has booked J-J Hernandez for the ride and they are on 7/4.  Express Train and Royal Ship are on 7/2.
