And the rest of Longchamp - firstly Saturday

Awful weather but some not bad racing just the same.

On Saturday the Prix Chaudenay went to Kevin Burke's Al Qareem with Ryan Moore getting on the board early from Sober 8/1 and Weld's Duke de Sessa.

The Prix de Royallieu was a bitter-sweet race as we had so hoped that Verry Elleegant could have a decent result but she got boxed in on the fence and could not get out until it was too late.  The winner was the beautifully-bred Sea La Rosa who won from Jannah Flowere and Ottilien.

The Cadran was also a bit of the bitter-sweet too as the sweet came from the winner Kyprios for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore who was an easy 20 lengths in front of the field.  For the record the second home was Almacado Gree and Tashkan third, but both Skazino and Joie de Soir were pulled up and while we do not know the full story it didn't sound like a happy ending.

Favourites won the next two group races and kept the fans happy – Anmat won the Dollar from Junko and West Wind Blows and Erevan won the Wildenstein but will that be enough to keep Soumillon retained by the Aga Khan?  For those living in the outer reaches of the racing news, on Friday Soumillon stuck out an elbow and knocked Rossa Ryan off his horse in what could have been a very nasty incident.  He apologised afterwards and got 60 days but this isn't the first time he's been involved in something like this.  The other day in Ecuador a jockey who did a similar thing has been banned for life.
