Experience pays for 3YO filly

Trainer Leon Wells is predicting a bright future for his lightly raced filly Shim who put up an impressive performance to win her second race from five starts in Hobart on Sunday.

After being a little slow to begin, Shim, ($9) settled last in the field of 10 and was still back near the tail when the they straightened for home but gathered up the leaders with 100m to go, scoring by a neck from Her Thoughts ($17) with Milla's Ready ($6.50) a close third in the Ladbrokes Owners Incentive Class 1 (1200m).

"She's a 3YO filly giving older horses weight so she has done a good job and she will only improve," Leon Wells said.

After a couple of unlucky runs at her past two starts, Wells made the tough decision to replace his grand-daughter, apprentice jockey Chloe Wells, for senior rider Brendon McCoull.

"Chloe has done a very good job with her, she's done all the work with her this time in but I just thought she needed a stronger rider.

"She's got a lot of ability but she does a few things wrong in her races and Brendon is so strong and she won well."

The Wells team later made it a double with Chloe riding Tony Nicconi ($10 into $5) to victory in the final event of the day.

Double for Brunton

Highly promising youngster Moveforlex made it two from two this campaign with a brave win in the Ladbrokes Racing Club Class 1 (1600m).

Moveforlex, $2.50 into $1.85, was stepping up in trip from 1200m a fortnight ago and got home by a neck after being challenged over the last 200m by Dutch Action ($7.50), then Banca Glee ($11) who finished hard to grab second place.

Beautifully bred by So You Think x Glory Guru, Moveforlex was a $240,000 purchase at the Melbourne Premier sale and is now in the care of the state's leading trainer Scott Brunton.

4YO mare Ole Ola ($3.80 fav) made it a double for Brunton thanks to a rail hugging ride from apprentice Taylor Johnstone, when she won the Kevin Sharkie BM60 (1430m).

Brendon McCoull and David Pires shared the riding honours with a double each.
