Ciaron Maher is contemplating increasing his Moir Stakes assembly by one after a slick gallop by a member of his team at The Valley on Monday morning.

Generation might have demanded he be given his shot at Friday night's $1 million Group 1 race after scooting around The Valley.

Maher is now giving serious consideration to taking in the 1000-metre Moir en route the $2 million Manikato Stakes (1200m) at the same track on Cox Plate eve.

"He worked sharper than usual this morning," Maher said.

"I was toying whether to go to the Moir or straight to the Manikato but I think the way he worked today gives me the confidence to have a look at the Moir," Maher said.

The son of Snitzel and Fontiton has not started since his first-up narrow second to Shooting For Gold in the Group 3 The Heath (1100m) at Caulfield on August 27.

"Nothing really went his way, he had to do all the bullocking work but he quickened up under his own steam and was a bit stiff to get collared late," Maher

"The horse (that won) just had the sweet run and had the momentum. He's done very well and he'll come on from that."

Generation will join top filly Coolangatta and in-form mare Bella Nipotina in the Moir if Maher and his training partner David Eustace elect to run.

Pre-nominations markets considered Coolangatta the stable's leading contender and Maher was keen to get her back to The Valley for more experience around the tight circuit.

"That was her first run the Victorian way and her first look at the Valley ad she had to do a fair bit of work and was left a little bit of a sitting duck," Maher said.

"She probably doesn't want it much wetter – I hope the rain stays away for her, that would be ideal – but I think she can improve a lot."

Maher might not want the rain for Coolangatta but it would enhance the chances of Bella Nipotina, a last-start winner of the 1000m Carlyon Stakes on a Heavy 8 track.

"She obviously loves the Valley, the wetter the better and 1000 metres (is suitable)," Maher said.

"She's very fit, very well, Craig (Williams) rode her this morning and gave her a good report so she's ready to go."

The Maher trio were among 14 nominations for the Moir Stakes with Rothfire, September Run, Paulele, Malkovich and The Inferno among their potential rivals.
