JJR team hoping to keep Flying with Mia

Flying Mia’s connections are hopeful their consistent mare will break through for a well-earned victory in the Airconditioning Canberra Pty Ltd Handicap (1400m) on Saturday at Thoroughbred Park.

Gallant in third last Friday, Flying Mia trained by Barbara Joseph, Paul & Matt Jones will enter this contest on the short back up with Paul Jones glowing in his report of her condition.

"She's pulled up really well and this is the ideal race for her so it was an easy decision to back her up." Jones said.

"She has really been knocking on the door with two seconds and two thirds this preparation. She really deserves a win this prep."

Flying Mia steps back from a mile to 1400m where she has done her best work. The four-year-old daughter of Flying Artie will also likely step out on favourable ground with her best performances coming in the Soft range.

Flying Mia figures to get a nice run having drawn Barrier 4 with in-form stable jockey Quayde Krogh engaged for the ride.

Earlier, in the day's feature the TAB Federal (1600m), team JJR's Nieces and Nephews will relish getting out his preferred distance in a mile.

"He had excuses last start over 1400m, we just got too far back and probably didn't push the button early enough. He was making up nice ground late so I think the step out to 1600m is key." Jones said.

"I think the majority of the rain should miss us and I think the track will play well which should play into his hands."

"He's getting a bit older so he wants a bit of sting out of the ground but he's definitely not looking for a Heavy 10 so the Soft ground should suit."

The TAB Federal is Race Three on Saturday's program and is due to jump at 1:36pm.
