The 19-year-old was riding the Kevin Miller-trained Corabetty onto the track for the Maiden Plate when it bucked during its preliminary, unseating her and jumping her onto the track.

"The horse bucked and Tahlia was still desperately trying to hold on to the reins to stop it getting loose and she landed awkwardly on the track on the balls of both heels," father Tony Fenlon said.

She was subsequently transported to Clermont Hospital where it was diagnosed that she sustained a broken right ankle and sprained left ankle.

"As there were no radiologists available at the Clermont Hospital, Tahlia was treated there, attended and medicated for some time before her mother Jodie drove her into Rockhampton to the Base Hospital on Saturday night," Tony said.

"They got in there at 2am (Sunday) and x-rays confirmed that the right ankle was broken and the left badly sprained."

Her father said it was confirmed that surgery would not be required for the right ankle.

''Tahlia was lucky it could have been a lot worse. We are very relieved," he said.

Naturally, stewards subsequently scratched the unraced Corabetty and barred it from racing until its trials to their satisfaction.

It had previously trialled on three occasions without incident.

In a short but brilliant career that commenced at Gladstone races in May last year, Tahlia has ridden over 90 winners and won numerous awards in the process.

She rode two winners at the its first day of the Twin Hills Annuals on Friday and was atop of the points score for the leading rider prior to her misfortune.

Tahlia had a full book of six rides at the Rockhampton Jockey Club's transferred Keppel Park, Yeppoon race meeting on Tuesday.
