The Star

Multisanti – R7 BM68 (1350m)

Punters love a horse that puts itself into the race and I think there's quite a few that have taken a liking to Multisanti who won his third race in succession, all over the Devonport 1350m.

His tactical speed was key to this race with Troy Baker easily able to find the front early and turning for home he was the only horse you wanted to be on.

His time here was a couple of lengths slower than last start but still comfortably the fastest of the 1350m races on Sunday. He needs to prove he can do it on the grass, but I tend to think there is more scope to this 4YO than a horse like his stablemate Cheeky One who put together a win streak of her own on the carpet at a similar time last year.

Sectional Standout

Ahzeezah R3 – Maiden (1350m)

This might be one that got away for punters that secured $20+ about Ahzeezah who was one of the bigger firmers all day (see below).

This race wasn't quickly run yet the overall time was still two lengths faster than the class 1 over the same distance. The last 400m for Ahzeezah on the Stridemaster Sectional data was bettered only by four horses who ran in the opening race and her last 200m was also the seventh fastest of the day.

A 19-start maiden doesn't exactly scream black booker, but only three of those runs have been with John Blacker who continued his good recent form with a double on Sunday.

Miss should've hit?

Form guides won't show the run of Belpine Miss on Sunday but it's one that may well be worth taking a note of.

The Barry Baker-trained mare missed the start badly, however after the race it was deemed she was denied a fair start and stewards declared her a non-runner.

The 4YO was fifth across the line around three lengths from the winner Gallant Warriors but given what occurred at the start, and a run in the home straight which would at best be described as "chequered", it's not hard to argue she should no longer be a maiden.

Belpine Miss closed as a $5.50 chance, a slight firmer from the $6.50 that was available after scratchings.
