Gangemi brothers hope plan pays off in hannans

Chris and Michael Gangemi believe a plan hatched to win the Listed Tabtouch Hannans Handicap (1400m) with Titan Blinders can be realised this afternoon in Kalgoorlie.

The Gangemi brothers have an enviable record with tried horses and acquired Titan Blinders after six wins from 36 starts for Leon and Troy Corstens in Melbourne.

Titan Blinders ran fifth first up for his new stable, but a top fourth in the Nicopolis Stakes (1200m) brought him into conversation for the Hannans.

Adopting a change of tactics, the seven-year-old settled back from his wide barrier before closing the race out behind Comes A Time in the fastest final 600m.

Titan Blinders has been afforded a gun draw in barrier two with in-form jockey, Shaun O'Donnell, maintaining his association with the All Too Hard gelding.

Chris Gangemi believes Titan Blinders is up for the challenge of winning the Hannans.

"He has been set for this race since we bought him a few months ago," Gangemi said on Tabradio.

"We thought he was a nice horse for the Hannans, 1400m, firm track, Kalgoorlie and a front-running type of thing.

"His first up run was okay, he needed the run, but last start showed he was right on track.

"His run was super and I thought he got home really nice.

"Today from a good gate he can settle behind the leaders and if he gets a split at the right time I think he'll be right in the finish.

"I think he can play a part for sure."

Since Tabtouch markets were opened earlier this week Titan Blinders has had plenty of admirers and from $16 has firmed into $7.

Meanwhile Gangemi believes an improved barrier draw, low weight and a hard track can help stablemate Creator cause an upset in the Hannans.

After a poor effort last-start at Belmont when last on rain affected ground, Creator returns to Kalgoorlie where he performed well in July and August.

The Redoute's Choice gelding won a 1300m handicap race in good style before a close second to Long Weekend in the Kambalda Cup (1400m).

"He may lack a little bit of class from the other runners, but he has a few things in his favour," Gangemi said.

"He has a good gate, no weight and his two runs in Kalgoorlie this prep have been super and I think you rule a line through his run in Perth.

"He's absolutely hopeless on a wet track, but if you go on his two runs in Kalgoorlie, he can play a part."

Creator, a $20 chance with Tabtouch, has drawn barrier three for Laqdar Ramoly.

He carries 54kg, a drop of 5kg on his previous start.
