Night racing set to resume

Night racing returns next Wednesday night at the Ladbrokes Racing Centre in Launceston and trainers are excited about getting their steeds back onto turf.

In Brief

  • 16 Wednesday night meetings programmed between October-March.
  • Friday night meeting in Launceston to coincide with Manikato Stakes on 21 October.
  • Good Friday meeting returns 7 April.

Seven races are programmed for the return but depending on acceptance numbers that could be stretched to eight.

The winter and early spring season ended with five consecutive meetings on the Devonport Racing Club's synthetic surface with that club not due to race again until December.

Action under lights next week will comprise saturation broadcast coverage with Peter Staples hosting Sky Thoroughbred Central's coverage teaming up with Jason Witham in the Sky studio.

Matt Reid and Duncan Dornauf will co-compere the entire program on Tasracing TV with both media streams delivering mounting yard comments and post-race interviews with participants.

Night racing schedule for 2022-23:

  • October: 5, 12, 21 (Friday night), 26.
  • November: 2, 9, 16, 23, 30.
  • December: 7, 14.
  • January: 18, 25.
  • March: 1, 8, 15, 29.
  • Good Friday (Easter) meeting 7 April.
