Aurora’s Symphony does it again

It was a brilliant training effort by Symon Wilde because the six-year-old went into the race having had only one start in three months and that was a victory in the Colac Cup (2000m) two weeks ago, the same race he won before taking out last year's Launceston Cup.

Victorian rider Blaike had the gelding settled just behind the speed from barrier one and when he eased off the rails to set sail after the tearaway leader, the gelded son of Glass Harmonium cut loose and cruised to the front 200m metres from home.

Aurora's Symphony ($6.60) held on to defeat local stayer Rising Light ($31) by over a length with Spirit Ridge ($3.50) third.

The horse's strapper Taylor Newman was emotional after the win, saying she had a real soft spot in her heart for the seven-yaer-old.

"I love this horse and to do what he's done to win back-to-back cups is amazing, but it doesn't surprise me," Newman said.

"Symon (Wilde) is a brilliant trainer and he said after this horse won the Colac Cup 10 days ago that he can go back to Tassie now and win another Launceston Cup."

McDougall was ecstatic as he only picked up the ride last Monday night.

"For this horse to win thew race again off such a short prep is a tribute to Symon's (Wilde) talent," McDougall said.

"The horse drew ideally in gate one and when we lobbed behind the leader off a solid tempo, I was fairly confident a log way out.

"I thought we would win kat the 800-metre mark. It was effortless."

Rising Light ran out of his skin to finish second and Annabel Neasham's stayer was game in third spot and just in advance of Tasmanian gelding White Hawk that was contesting his last race.
