Neil Evans' Tips for Coffs Harbour (Thursday)

Track Soft 5 and rail True:

Racecourse : Coffs Harbour (Australia).
Racecourse : Coffs Harbour (Australia).

Race 1 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

We start over the sprint trip on a surface likely to stay just under Good range with some showers forecast. Lightly raced and still progressing four-year-old 1. Toy Boy Roy was very good when fourth-up on Country C'ship Qualifying day over the flying 800m; jumping to the front and giving nothing else a look-in. With that maiden out of the road, this isn't much stronger, and from an even better draw, he can take the next step.

Dangers: Improving 2. King's Gold gets some weight relief third-up. Home track colt 4. Cool Amigo can run a big race first-up from a soft draw and finally getting back on firmer ground; while 5. Pixie Hallow is also trained on the track, and upset the top selection two starts back in heavy going.

How to play it: Toy Boy Roy to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (800m):

The flying dash is up the alley of local Spill The Beans filly 10. Revealer who resumes at huge odds off a seven month spell for only her third start. Dropped out in both runs last prep, but the fresh drop back to this trip is a plus, and the stable has made key gear changes.

Dangers: Naturally improving local filly and clear favorite 9. Iamrustyparker is a threat down in quality third-up after chasing home the top selection from the previous race. Include 2. Dis Is Heaven who finds a weaker race at third start; 6. Star Diamond fourth-up with blinkers coming off; and another home tracker 12. Tough Legend resuming; in exotic bets.

How to play it: Revealer each way and quinella 9 and 10
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (800m):

Still over the shortest course, and it shapes strongly on the map for local mare 10. Continuum who knocked up playing the bridesmaid for most of last prep. Still just one win from 41 starts, but a staggering 17 further placings, 13 of those second and often without luck. Draws to get nice cover just off the speed, and will be strong late.

Dangers: Tough 1. Poita has more than enough ability in this company after a nice closing return in tougher grade, but threatens to go around under the odds back in distance under a big weight. Improving 2. Tropics missed narrowly first-up in Qld over the same trip, and this looks a shade easier; while lightly raced 5. Mr Mojo Risin' second-up with blinkers added; and 7. Perkova resuming from a soft gate; head the rest.

How to play it: Continuum to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BENCHMARK 74 HCP (1000m):

Tricky race, but like four-year-old mare 10. Palawa Kani reloading off a six week break. Swept home to win two straight up to CL3 level before getting lost in similar grade from a wide gate. Much better served back on the bigger and longer straight, and she's well treated staying at 56.5kg.

Dangers: Good class local mare 2. Boncassie will be hard to hold out fourth-up from the inside draw. Up in weight, but comes back from the much harder Country C'ship Qualifier. Keep safe resuming 1. Mikado, who held his own well against tougher provincial and metro opposition early last prep, and blinkers coming off is a show of stable confidence; while 7. Lucky Sham drops in trip and significantly in class, and will be running home late.

How to play it: Palawa Kani to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 3 HCP (1200m):

Wide open sprint here with a stack of chances. Progressive five-year-old 5. Tigertude is primed to peak here third-up. Has hit the line hard from well back in two runs this prep, and gets a sharp weight drop for the rise in class, with a leading country jockey taking over.

Dangers: Big watch on three-year-old 12. Stoinka who was run down late as a well backed favorite first-up in a weaker field, but gets a 5.5kg weight drop for this, and gear changes have been made. The run from 2. Little Prophet in a Country C'ship Qualifier having to navigate through traffic off the inside was good, and she will relish the long run home here from a soft cover draw. Include 3. Moyasser back from Country C'ship Qualifying class; so too 6. Run Rory Run third-up from the fence draw; and Gold Coast-based 13. I Am A Hit second-up with a sharp drop in weight.

How to play it: Tigertude to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Another very open contest, and there's colossal value aboard home track three-year-old 9. Supreme Lucas who can peak at his third start. Worked home fairly through traffic here 12 days ago, and gets an important gear change.

Dangers: Watch the betting big time with the Kris Lees-trained Fast Choice filly 13. Fast Lady who debuts from a handy draw behind two trials, the latest showed speed but no match for a dominant winner. Expect sharp improvement second-up from stablemate filly 12. Caroline Bay after failing to finish off in a useful maiden on the Beaumont track. The debut run of Gold Coast filly 14. Lean In was solid, and she draws to get a soft trail here just off the speed. Emerging Qld filly 11. Akermative worked home okay on the Gold Coast Polytrack, although facing a tough task drawn very wide. Include 2. Gold Something at second start with winkers added; and improving 4. Oojah Capow third-up; in all exotic bets.

How to play it: Supreme Lucas each way
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

All aboard improving filly 4. Fireflies who can strike up sharply in distance at only her third start. Made some late ground resuming behind a speedy and smart winner, but she's bred to be far more effective over this journey, and getting on to a bigger track. Will likely settle back from a wide gate, but watch for a pulsating final 400m.

Dangers: After three spaced runs to start his career generally hitting the line from well off speed, local four-year-old 1. Zanardee's Lane is ready to break through over more ground. Winkers go on 3. Dempsey Rae second-up from the inside draw; while 8. Exercise and 12. Percontation; are the next best.

How to play it: Fireflies to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1400m):

Another wide and tough one to finish, but keen at the value around 5. Don't Forget Dad who is overdue deep into the prep. Was close-up in consecutive runs at Port before being ridden much further back in a deeper race here where he powered home, only to be knocked out by a late closer. New jockey goes on.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by 6. Inspiration who was right alongside second-up in that same race after coming from a mile back. Big watch at good odds too on 2. Surf Sonic second-up with a key jockey change; while 10. Nevada Smoke and 13. Miss Laquetta can both add further value into exotics.

How to play it: Don't Forget Dad each way
Odds and Evens: Split
