Weekend wrap: Toeroek, Crowther claim Magic Millions features

Jake Toeroek’s impressive season in the saddle extended to Murray Bridge on Saturday winning the $202,250 Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic with Tacito.

The pair jumped a dominant $2.05 favourite and never looked like being beaten giving Ben and JD Hayes a second two-year-old feature in as many weeks after winning the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield seven days earlier.

It was also the second leg of a two-state double after Princess Duhallow claimed the opening race at Flemington.

Jake Toeroek has now ridden 31 winners for the 2022-23 season, just six shy of his mark from last season, to lead Barend Vorster in the SA Metro Jockey Premiership by five.

Kayla Crowther claimed the Magic Millions SA 3 & 4YO Classic with the Danny O'Brien-trained Stupendo.

O'Brien also producing the third placed Treporti with race favourite Elite Icon splitting the pair.

Crowther took Murray Bridge riding honours with a double after winning the opening race aboard the heavily backed Limited Risk who was too smart on debut for Gooolwa trainer David Jolly.

Shayne Cahill took training honours with a double at Bordertown on Sunday when Hello Ladies and Realtin were successful, Callan Murray also claiming two winners to continue his solid form in the saddle.

And at Port Lincoln on Friday the David Page-trained Splash Some Cash claimed a second successive Eyre Peninsula feature when he led through to defy a fast finishing Grinzinger Alle in the Port Lincoln Cup.

The win a first SA feature for former Victorian jockey Samuel Payne, the day only getting better for all involved when Payne's partner Zoe Lloyd scored aboard stablemate Hurricane Sonny in the last race on the card.
