James Cummings has revealed the next target for Godolphin superstar Anamoe and it isn't the Ranvet Stakes as expected.

The weight-for-age star will instead be kept on fresh legs and tackle the shorter George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on the same March 18 Rosehill program.

Cummings left both options on the table after Anamoe's devastating victory in the Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) last start but it was widely expected the horse would continue to progress in distance to the 2000m of the Ranvet.

However, Racing NSW stewards confirmed on Wednesday that Cummings had advised them the George Ryder was the stable's preferred option and James Mcdonald had been booked.

"Trainer James Cummings has informed Racing NSW stewards that while Anamoe holds an engagement for both the George Ryder Stakes (Group 1) and Ranvet Stakes (Group 1) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 18th March 2023, it is the stable's current intention to run the stallion in the George Ryder Stakes with James McDonald having been engaged," Racing NSW stewards said in a statement.

Anamoe is being aimed towards the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 8 ahead of a European tilt likely to include Royal Ascot
